First generation matching grant application

The First-Generation Matching Grant Fund provides critical support for students at Florida State University who are the first in their families to attend college and are from low-income backgrounds.

The State of Florida provides a two-to-one match for all contributions to this fund, effectively tripling your donation and the financial support for this student population.

These funds support students engaged in the Center for Academic Retention and Enhancement (CARE) Program. In addition to financial support, CARE provides preparation, orientation, and academic support for first-generation students who may face unique challenges in college because of educational or economic circumstances.

Step up to the challenge! If we hit our goal of $7,000 to provide scholarships for 1st-generation students matched by the State of Florida 2:1, we can also unlock a generous gift of $50,000 for our Unconquered Scholars. Unconquered Scholars are CARE students who experienced foster care, homelessness, relative care, or ward of the State status. Many have faced profound hardships that increase their risk of dropping out of college. Florida State University is committed to meeting their unique needs so they experience the long-term professional and personal benefits associated with educational attainment.
